Monsters crawled across his eyes - again! Blinking didn't seem to slow them down at all. Nor did the Cheez Chiz. So Violet reached for the Ultrum. She had never tried that before, but her friends said it had worked. She tossed back two, then two more for good measure. Playing that damn video game on Alan's computer all night had got into her brain. She took two more capsules, just to be safe. Eyes closed. Eyes opened. A flounder-shaped monster floated across her vision still. Two more pills, no, one more, only one more left. She had been saving them...

Within an hour, she'd found more Ultram and was downing half the bottle. That took care of the monsters, but she wanted to be sure. So she found the location of the latest overseas shipment and purchased the whole thing on credit. Laying atop a pile of empty pill bottles, she was overcome by the horrifying realization that she had not defeated the monsters, but joined them, swelling their amorphous ranks into hideous bloated immensity, blotting out the stars... her eyes opened. She was laying on a bed, and the monsters were nowhere in sight. Nor was her brother. He was probably hungover from some other interactive computer killing adventure. The ceiling above her floated and waved in a breeze.

Leaving their tent she wondered, how could John wish to play computer games while they were on safari in Africa? At least what was left of Africa. She realized her minions had exploited all available space for Ultram plantations, and she'd emerged from her drug trip the chairman of an international pharmaceutical conglomerate that permitted little real human interaction anymore. All were monsters. Luckily she was in the only place you could feel civilized now: the jungle! (Lights fade)
