With a shout, Farmer Fred opened the barn door and threw all the feed in. There was a silence, and then the beasties started chomping. They were turning out beautifully. When Joe had first suggested that mail-order seed packet, Sally Mae Jane was dead set against it. She was dead set against most things, but mostly she was dead, and set against the wall. He kinda liked her there, as though she watched and approved of everything he did. Fred had always wanted her approval but he always whined a lot too. Meanwhile the barn started to swell as the beast inside grew and grew. It wouldn't hold much longer. Fred whined and chewed his fingernails nervously. The manual had described in great detail how to raise a Herpagamorph, but not what to do with a full grown Herpagamorph. Not even what they ate. Sally Mae would know what to do. He wheeled her out for a look, and she did know. Toppling over into the dust, she offered herself up to the Herpagamorph as it burst out of the all too confined barn. Crunch munch!
