Some time around 2000 I went through a phase in which I devoted a lot of time to combing through my classical Greek dictionary for words whose meanings I thought were interesting, and for which I didn’t know a corresponding English word.
These, along with the vignettes, were originally published in The Abyss, a long-defunct local zine put out by some friends of mine, to which I contributed a regular feature.
